WONP S R Lyall
Sid passed awayjust before Xmas 2004.
He is survived by his second wife Hilda and his daughters Sue, Julie and their families. Sid has for very many years held various positions of office at the Mortdale (NSW) RSL and has contributed a great deal to the welfare of members. Sid joined the RAN at the end of WW2 and served as a steward (CPO) until transferring to the NDP/Naval Police in the 1950's. He retired as a WONP in the late 1970's (could have been early 1980's). Sid always had a colourful story to tell and 'knew' everybody. He will be missed by a lot of people.
May he rest in peace.

'Tassie' Coleman
(Email sent to me by Rod Cleary)
Tassie was a docky cop from 1969 to 1977 served in the Sydney area mostly at outstations Randwick Naval Stores, Leichhardt, RANRL, RAN TAU when they were at Rushcutter & of course REVY at Pyrmont. Tassie died in late 2003 but I have not long ago heard about it. I have been working on a report for his wife who is trying to get a DVA widows pension as Tassie was a cook on the Melbourne when she hit the Voyager then served for 2 years on the Sydney doing the Vung Tau runs. Regards Rod
May he rest in peace.

May he rest in peace.
Inspector Graham Mayes.
This message was taken from the guestbook and the kind words had been written by John Miscamble
Graham and I entered the
Naval Police in January 1975 and were in regular contact with each other until I
paid off in 1983. We did the NSW Fire Brigade Course in 1979 and Graham went on
to be commisioned. Never was there a more suitable person for a commission, he
was an all round "good hand". "Barney Rubble" as I used to call him, remember
the resemblance; he used to scoff but underneath he liked it,we also pursued
another way of life, we entered Freemasonry together though the same Lodge and
worked our way up through the Craft together. I make no secret of this and if
anyone wants to scoff or make an idiot comment then get stuffed. Graham was a
man that I was proud to know, I wish his family all the best and I drink to his
memory.
May he rest in peace.

Arthur Colin BROWN
It is with deep regret I advise members on this site the
passing of a former Naval Police member. Arthur Colin Brown (AKA Colin Brown)
Offical Number P 35568, passed away yesterday afternoon Sunday 24th August 2008
at HOLLYWOOD Hospital, Western Australia aged 88. Colin had been in and out of
hospital over the past 10 months as a result of DIABETES. Last week he faced his
first every surgery with the romoval of a large toe. Blood circulation to his
feet was very poor and he dreaded the thought of major aputation of both feet.
Colin joined the RAN from CUNDEDIN WA in the 1940s against the wishes of his
father. Colin should have been running the family farm. Joined Flinders Naval
Base before being posted to SYDNEY and seeing service on KAPUNDA and BATAAN. Had
to come to the assistance and rescue of the GORGAN after being hit with a 2 x
250lb bombs from a Jap Zero. Whilst at LEEUWIN, he was crash posted to HMAS
PERTH while at FREMANTLE. On his posting, it was observed by sickbay he had
spots on his lung xray, was returned to the sickbay for further assessment and
posting cancelled. It was suspected he may have developed TB and was held in the
sickbay for a further three days. In the meantime, HMAS PERTH departed and his
service doc returned to LEEUWIN. HMAS PERTH was later sunk in the SUNDA Straits.
He witnessed the Japanese surrender and went to TOKYO as a part of the
occupation forces before discharge in 1948.
Colin rejoined the RAN in 1951 when he joined the Naval Police after being
advised by former collegues they where about to join as a part of a major
recruiting drive. Colin remained in the Service before retiring in 1968 from
HMAS LEEUWIN.
He is survived by sons Peter, Trevor and Michael and daughters Patricia and
Veronica.
